I had a free trip that was about to expire, and I was lucky to get a round trip ticket to South America.
February 3-6 - Montevideo, Uruguay
I had never been to Montevideo, however I have been to Colonia, Uruguay before. My hotel was in the main square near the presidential palace and the old section of Montevideo.
As usual I walked to get acquainted with the area. The old town and port were only about a mile away.
On the second day I took the hop on hop off bus to see the other sections of town and the beaches. Montevideo is known for its beautiful beaches.
On the third day it felt like a hurricane hit the city. It was too windy to do anything.

February 6-11 - Buenos Aires
Luckily the winds died down and my ferry from Montevideo to Buenos Aires was able to operate.
I have lost count of the times I have visited Buenos Aires, but I know it is well over 20. I used to go there for business and during the last ten years I have visited at least once a year. It is one of my favorite cities in the world.
My apartment was in the Puerto Moderno section of town, the modern port. The first day I went to my favorite steak house in San Telmo. I've had the same waiter for nine years. This is the first time I remember ever having finished the one pound plus steak.
I did lots of walking all over the city, visiting and revisiting my favorite sights. The Retiro train station hopefully will inspire me to paint again.
